The Heart

Quite a few years ago I made a heart painting, It was bright pink with a white heart. I started making them to commission - all very slightly different but mostly pink with white. Then some people wanted other colours and I started interweaving words into the background. The act of painting words was very therapeutic and although I have no skills in calligraphy the ‘art’ of handwriting has always pleased me and in this world of keyboards, as an artist I find the act of writing easy and happy.

Just recently I approached the idea of the heart again. As a different arm to my work it’s very satisfying and is a contrast to the more you might say ‘considered’ work - abstract flowers, seascapes and scenes based on drawings and photographs. The heart works I guess are more of a graphic design, more commercial you might say.

It has been a pleasure to revisit this design. I stilll have some prints in stock which you can see on the drawings and prints page but I am also making heart paintings again on large canvases 100 x 80cm (which are collect only), but also smaller works on board or canvas from 30cm square upwards to 50cm square which can be sent by mail or courier. Each painting made to commission can be personalised, interweaving names or an important date, for a special birthday or an occasion or just as a keepsake. I can add gold or silver leaf to make it very special.
