Interiors and Art

A lot of clients say to me - I’d love a new painting but I’m running out of wall space!

I know this feeling only too well so I think it’s fun to think of different ways to display art. We all know the term ‘shelfie” but it’s true that to make a display on a shelf is another way to show off your art collection. Paintings of varying sizes can be propped up on a shelf in a row or mix a painting with a vase of flowers, a plant and a collection of books - even better if you can co-ordinate the colours.

I have an open shelf in my kitchen stacked with my collection of white crockery which I use every day but it also works as a place for one of my favourite paintings propped up in the background behind the cups and plates. My dresser too has an ever changing collection of art, paintings and framed posters or photographs.

Talking of changing, I also think its possible to fall into the trap of putting a painting up when you first buy it and just leaving it there forever - try changing your paintings around with the seasons. It’s quite amazing how it can totally change the space with a different colour palette that you can then add co -ordinating accessories, cushions and throws.

Re thinking the way we display art can open up lots of possibilities… and leave room for more!
